Jean qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Sheffield. Following a period in general dental practice she entered the specialist training pathway in the UK. For over 5 years Jean was at the front line of dental and facial trauma in some of the UK’s busiest hospitals working as a Resident in Maxillofacial Surgery. This involved covering the A&E department for facial trauma in addition to assisting and managing patients with both Corrective Facial Surgery and Oral and Facial cancers. She also gained extensive skills and experience in Oral Surgery and sedation. This breadth of experience makes Jean highly competent in the management and diagnosis of all aspects of dento-facial anomalies.

Following Jean’s success in achieving her Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians she made the decision to specialise in the discipline of Orthodontics. She was accepted onto a full time postgraduate training programme at The University of Leeds and graduated with a distinction in the Masters in Dental Science. She was also awarded the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons (London) and became a Fellow in Orthodontics from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. The British Orthodontic Society awarded Jean the top honour for outstanding Post Graduate Research for her work into developing a new antimicrobial orthodontic adhesive.

Jean is dedicated to providing high quality orthodontics, and has a strong interest in new and developing technologies. She is especially interested in aesthetic appliances such as Invisalign and invisible lingual braces and also the provision of early orthodontic treatment. One of the aspects of orthodontics that Jean loves is the variety of her patients, ranging in age from the ones the Tooth Fairy visits to patients who haven’t seen the Tooth Fairy for a very long time. She frequently attends courses and conferences to stay up-to-date with the current research and treatment modalities.

Dr Brennan has been a key lecturer in orthodontics to general dentists in the UK and Australia, as well as undergraduate dental students. Her skills have been utilised for peer accreditation as an Expert Reviewer for the British Dental Journal.

As well as lecturing Jean has also been published in the orthodontic press, and is a member of the Australian Dental Association, Australian Society of Orthodontists, British Orthodontic Society, the Royal College of Surgeons (England), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow), the Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland).
